काठमांडू, Dec 16 - Effecting a major change in the existing division of work among central leaders, the ruling CPN-Maoist has reshuffled the responsibilities of central committee members, as per the party’s recently adopted “one person, one position” policy.
Maoist sources informed that leader Dinanath Sharma has been appointed the new spokesperson of the party. Sharma replaced Information and Communications Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara, who was erstwhile serving as the spokesperson of both the government and the party.
The party’s ongoing Central Committee (CC) meeting effected the changes yesterday. The CC meeting today unanimously passed the “one person, one position policy.”
Sources, however, said that the new policy will not be applicable to Prime Minister and Maoist Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal, who will also continue to chair the party.
Similarly, leader Khadga Bahadur Bishwakarma has been appointed the Seti-Mahakali State in-charge, leader Matrika Yadav in-charge of the Mithila State, Indra Mohan Sigdel in-charge of Kirat State Committee, Hari Bhakta Kandel as in-charge of Tharuwan State Committee and CP Gajurel the party’s foreign affairs in-charge.
Central leaders of the party had been demanding the change maintaining that party works were being affected as one person was holding double responsibilities, both in the party and the government.
Meanwhile, the central committee meeting is underway at the Maoist headquarters at Budhhanagar, New Baneshwor.
The meeting is also set to endorse a code of conduct for Maoist ministers and Constituent Assembly members.
Following concerns by the Maoist cadres that their ministers and CA members exhibited a “facility-seeking attitude” after the party led the government, the meeting has urged the leaders and members to adopt the “simple living, high thinking” philosophy.
Newly appointed spokesperson Sharma informed that the meeting would also form a mechanism to help coordination between the government and the party and will also finalise the working procedures of the mechanism.
The CC meeting held yesterday had endorsed the single political document with the working policy “people’s federal democratic national republic” prepared by Chairman Dahal incorporating some ideas from the political report put forth by senior leader Mohan Baidya.
It also announced that the Maoists would go for a broader “republican front” with republican and nationalist forces for the implementation of the government’s plans and policies.
Today’s CC meeting is expected to decide the party’s future strategy.
